What is included in the Adventure Safari?
Our scheduled Adventure Safari is an all inclusive package. Once you arrive at our base camp in Pedasi there is nothing else to do but follow along and choose which activities you would like to do on each day. If you do want to buy some special snacks to take along we have a couple of grocery stores near the base camp just a couple of minutes walk.
Do you provide Airport (Panama City) Meet and Greet with transportation to the base camp?
Yes, while this service is not included in the Adventure Safari price we can and do gladly offer this service for an additional fee. For this we use our 12 passenger air-conditioned van. The travel time is about 4.5 hrs.
How can we get to Pedasi?
You can elect to contract our meet and greet service as above or you have two other options. You can rent a car at the airport and leave it at the base camp during your Adventure Safari or it is possible to take a bus from the Albrook (Nacional) Bus Terminal to Las Tablas (5 hrs). We will gladly meet you in Las Tablas and escort you to the base camp. (35 minutes)
Aeroperlas Regional airline schedules flights between Albrook and Pedasi a few times a week (sometimes - be sure to check the actual airline schedule as the schedules posted on many web sites is outdated). You can try contacting the airline web site for a schedule at www.aeroperlas.com .
We can pick you up at the Pedasi airport or Las Tablas bus terminal without charge.
Where is the base camp located?
Our current base camp is the Pedasi Sports Club Resort and B&B. We selected Pedasi Sports Club because of it's clean and spacious accomodations, abundance of tropical foliage, swimming pool, restaurant - bar and because they are the hub of all sporting activities in Pedasi and the Azuero Peninsula.
Pedasi Sports Club is on the left as you enter Pedasi from Las Tablas. It is just across from the Police Station and just before the Banco Nacional.
Is there a minimum age requirement to join the Adventure Safari?
For our scheduled Adventure Safari we have a minimum age requirement of 12 years. For children under 18 years we require that they be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you schedule a "special" safari then there is no age limit....but again children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
What about health concerns?
Our scheduled Adventure Safari is indeed an adventure and as such we request that only those persons in reasonably good health sign-up for the Adventure. There will be hiking, horse riding, boating, fishing, tubing, etc.
We recommend that all of our guest review the USA Center for Disease Control Web Site as it applies to Panama and travel in general and follow those guidelines.
If you need special medications you should be sure to bring a sufficient amount with you from home as they may not be available in Panama.
All of our staff are trained Emergency First Responders or Instructors in EFR First Aid and CPR). We also include a field medical kit as part of our field camp supplies.
What should we bring?
Everything that is required other than clothing, medications, personal hygeine supplies and any special snacks you would like are furnished. Once you have reserved we will send a mailer with a list of recommended items for you to bring.
Once you arrive at the base camp you will be provided with a back pack and most of your personal supplies such as towels, sheets, pillow, toilet paper, etc.. You will pack your personal clothing and personal supplies in the pack.
Your suitcases can be left in a secure room at the base camp until your return.
What form of payment do you accept at the base camp?
We accept Visa, Mastercard and Cash at the base camp. There is a Banco Nacional just across the street with an ATM machine should it be needed.
How do we make our deposit?
We accept wire transfers into our USA or Panama Accounts and we also accept PayPal.
Once your reservation request has been received and we have confirmed that we have space available we will send instructions for a bank transfer or a PayPal request for payment, whichever you prefer. By using Paypal you will have a larger choice of payment options.
What About Emergencies?
Since we are operating in a remote area it is prudent for us to have an effective medical evacuation plan. As was stated in one of the other questions, all of our staff are Emergency First Aid / CPR Trained. They will assist with emergency situations to the extent of their training.
We will have one boat standing by near the arrival / departure beach. This boat would be available to take the person needing assistance to Cambutal and then the Salud Medical Clinic in Tonasi where more extensive aid can be rendered and ambulance transport arranged for transport to a hospital in Las Tablas.
Our lead guide also carries SPOT. This is a satellite emergency locator beacon that has the capability of sending short preprogrammed messages to the base camp and provisions for the base camp to track the movements of the SPOT.
If necessary we can also call in a Medevac Chopper to meet us at the beach.
There is no phone or internet service (land line or cellular) where our field camp and operational area is located. Satellite phones do work if you would like to bring one.
We recommend that our guests purchase trip insurance that would cover medical and evacuation costs should the necessity arise. We do not cover the cost of medical evacuation. If you would like we can provide the name of an insurance company that provides such insurance. Check INSURE MY TRIP for numerous travel insurance options from 18 different providers.
The Government of Panama has just recently enacted legislation to provide free medical insurance to tourist for the first 30 days in Panama.
